No WAN, No LAN... all in one system

Hello,

Looking for advise on witch path to go and advise if I’m on the right track until now.

  1. I’ll need to capture sensor data from about 30 sensors in a ruff/harsh/dangerous area.
  2. I can’t make the server/gateways attached to WAN at all. we have no internet available whatsoever. not even LAN. the installation Need to be ‘standalone’
  3. I’m planing on adding an Access Point WiFi so a tablet can access the Application/server and read data from sensors nodes/gateway(s).

So here are my questions;

  1. for my nodes, to start somewhere, could a simple node like this one work well;
    https://www.adafruit.com/product/3078
    this model is based on RFM95 and has more than I need in terms of IO and functions

  2. Since I can’t hook the system on WAN/LAN, I was thinking to have a computer to act as a
    (gateway, server, app server, wifi access point) on the same machine, **((good idea? facing issues ?))

a fanless system with x86 CPU that can accept a mPCIE/USB card like this;
http://www.liyatech.com/hardware_view.php?hardware_class_sn=3&hardware_detail_sn=15

the wifi AP will be connected to this machine and my most likely single user will connect his tablet to it to read data captured from nodes.

  1. is this setup seams over complicated for my needs ?
    any hardware suggestions would be appreciated ( for gateway cards and node module )
    I already have the computer.

Thanks :slight_smile:
