I’m using seeed’s grove wio e5 to transmit (and also receive) data. It works alright upto 40-50 mts. but then fails to connect to the gateway when I move further away. I’m using this in a commerical building where there’s thick concrete walls, plenty of furniture and stuff.
The grove wio e5 uses an inbuilt wire antenna that’s all coiled up. It does have a u.fl connector though for an external antenna.
Would I be better off using a external antenna? I’m thinking a rubber duck one with a 1dBi gain. Or should I just uncoil the wire antenna and make it vertical? Would that be equally as effective?
Also, I’m not sure if one’s required to configure the external antenna on the module. ie. to make the wio e5 switch over from the inbuilt antenna to the external one. How does one do this?
