Hi, I have been looking into the possibility of installing the GWB on each of our gateways in order to overcome possible issues with HA in Kubernetes. Wondering if anyone has done this with a Cisco IXM and can verify if it would work? I know I read somewhere that the Common Packet Forwarder isn’t compatible, but can’t find that again.
I feel that it’s abnormal for Cisco’s UDP packet forwarder to not work, since Cisco is quite a large brand.
But anyway, I know that Cisco IXM has a BasicStation implementation, which I briefly worked with in 2020. The IXM was loaned for integration works with the BasicStation module from Cisco.
I have managed to find the documentation mentioning CPF. In this document it mentions that if CPF is present then GWB must be installed on a separate server.
To your point about the UDP PF not working, I have been informed that we are using basic station on the gateways as I believe someone from Cisco recommended the same.
If we are using basic station, does that mean the CPF restriction wouldn’t apply to us?
Sorry for so many questions. I have been away from lorawan and gateways for years, so lot of stuff I need to relearn.
To me, having GWB in the cloud is actually the normal way of things. Regardless of whether I’m using Semtech’s UDP packet forwarder or BasicStation.
Given that your comments were about how the Cisco UDP packet forwarder was somehow not compatible, then switching it out for a BasicStation packet forwarder could solve the problem because it is a different set of logic. Given that Semtech provided better documentation this time and it runs on top of a higher-level protocol (WebSocket), I think there should be less window for incompatibilities.
But of course, please try it out first before committing the new design for production use.
