What software should be in the MultiTech AP3 Gateway

Hello everyone, I’m new to the community, and I had a small misunderstanding on a minor point.

I want to use a Gateway from MultiTech, specifically the MTCAP3-EN. However, while looking at the documentation for ChirpStack: ChirpStack Documentation to see how to install the software that will allow us to send our data, I saw that there is first the Packet Forwarder, then I saw that it talks about ChirpStack MQTT Forwarder whereas I was originally used to seeing the term ChirpStack Gateway Bridge.

So my question is as follows: Are the ChirpStack MQTT Forwarder and ChirpStack Gateway Bridge the same thing or different software?

Thank you, Best regards.

The MQTT Forwarder and Gateway Bridge are different software, although it serves the same purpose at first glance.

One difference is that the Gateway Bridge allows Semtech Basic Station backend as well as Azure/GCP integrations.

According to the documentation, looks like the MQTT Forwarder is recommended over Gateway Bridge for the Multitech.

Hope this helps.

The MQTT forwarder was designed as a lightweight Chirpstack Gateway Bridge for gateways with less resources. Either will serve the purpose of translating the LoRaWAN messages to MQTT events and sending them to your server, although the MQTT forwarder takes less resources and is newer so it is recommended.

Hello,

Thank you for your response, I now have a better understanding. However, I just purchased a Gateway MTCAP3-EN-A23EEA-DEM and I would like to know all the configurations to make when accessing its web interface using its IP address: 192.168.2.1. As you advised, I followed your recommendation to install the Chirpstack MQTT Forwarder service on my Gateway, preferably from the site : Multitech - ChirpStack open-source LoRaWAN® Network Server documentation.

However, when I try to add my Gateway to my Chirpstack server, I see that it is never detected.

Here are the configurations of my Chirpstack MQTT Forwarder:

Similarly, for my Chirpstack server (I am using version 4):

I would also like to know if there are any other configurations to make on the web interface of the Gateway?

Merci d’avance j’attends votre réponse avec impatience.

The MQTT IP should be the IP of the MQTT server instead.
There is not MQTT in the gateway itself.

Hello, thank you, I understood where my problem was. To give you a bit of context, my ChirpStack server is hosted on a virtual machine, but my network access mode was set to “Host-Only Network” and it had the IP address: 192.168.56.101.

So, when I tried to enter this IP address into the Web interface of my gateway, my Packet Forwarder displayed “STOPPED”. Therefore, I changed the access mode of my virtual machine to “Bridged Adapter” and it shared the same network as my gateway:

→ ChirpStack Server: 192.168.2.100
→ Multitech Gateway: 192.168.2.1

Additionally, I was also able to modify the configuration of my ChirpStack MQTT Forwarder by adjusting the correct IP address of my ChirpStack server…
